just friends
I love our in-betweens
when we are not asleep
but not awake
amber light creeps in
dust floating in its beams like fireflies
caught in between
night and day
your fingertips trace over the curve of my hip
the canvas of my body
draped over you
you draw on my collarbone
slowly, hazily, lazily
you outline every inch
and touch me as if you created me yourself
my warmth falls into yours
reality falls away
our bodies sing this morning song
just as softly as we sang our lullaby last night
our music plays until
sunrise breaks into day
and our in-between falls away
my eyes plead to you
but my lips guard the question
why are we
caught in between
how can our bodies sing together
how can we make art
make love
be one while the moon is full
and be nothing when day breaks
I will let go of your artistry
and find someone who hangs me proudly
in their gallery
someone who will sing with me
in perfect harmony
someone who loves our nights
as much as our days
and all of our in-betweens
