Creator Spotlight: Laura De Lorenzi

Introduce yourself & tell us a bit about your interests and passions? 

Hello, my name is Laura De Lorenzi. I am 21 years old with a mind for all things creative and business-driven. I have had a fashion and lifestyle blog for over 6 years, and more recently have delved into content creation with some of my dream brands. I am also a Retail Management student at Ryerson University where my interest in business lies. I have always had a passion for styling outfits and sharing lifestyle tips which led me to create my blog and Instagram account A Little Touch of Gold. My goals for my professional endeavours are rooted in my personal interests and love for inspiring others to look and feel their best. I love fashion, self-care, baking and sharing all of my experiences with others. All of these passions led me to create my own styling service called Styled by ALTG, which has allowed me to combine my business background and my creative side. There is lots more to come, I feel like the sky’s the limit. 


What got you into fashion? 

I could not narrow down one particular person, thing or event that got me into fashion. Ever since I was little I would spend hours in my room trying on clothes and putting together outfits. I was instantly fascinated by different colours and fabrics. Every day was an occasion to me, and therefore the perfect outfit always needed to be created. I would say, however, that my love of fashion has increased throughout the years from following my favourite bloggers/influencers such as Allegra Shaw, Danielle Carolan and Kelsey Diprima. Additionally, from reading books on iconic designers as brands. I have always found inspiration within myself for fashion, but the more knowledge and inspiration I find, the more I fall in love with what fashion embodies and communicates to others. 


What is it like running your own blog? What sparked that? 

I started my blog in the summer of 2016. Seems like a lifetime ago now. It was around the time when Instagram was getting increasingly more popular. My friends and family would always turn to me for advice when it came to fashion and lifestyle, whether it was the best ways to style a blazer, advice on how to grow healthy hair or what my recent purchases were. They all told me to start a blog to share all my ideas with the world, and that is where A Little Touch of Gold was born. Since then I have written over 400 blog posts, on various topics in the fashion and lifestyle space. Running my own blog is like running my own little empire. I am my own boss, and it’s a medium that I own which I love. When writing posts I never put pressure on myself, rather I write whenever I am inspired. I take time each week to respond to comments, come up with concepts and plan how to turn them into reality. A lot more goes into it than people think. My ultimate goal with A Little Touch of Gold is to help everyone feel confident no matter what their personal style is, and make them feel inspired to live their best life every day. 


What is your favourite part about content creation? 

My favourite part about content creation is figuring out how to transform an idea in my head into reality. I am an implementor, and therefore love the process of taking an idea, putting all the materials together and seeing the finished product. It is amazing to work with brands to figure out how to put each of our brand images together in a way that is authentic and meaningful to us both. It is a different experience every time; no two pieces of content are alike and no two brands are alike. I never know what the experience or end result will be and that is what is so exciting. 


Can you share some of your past projects and creative endeavours with us? 

Absolutely! I have put together a round-up of some of my favourite past projects with dream brands including Mejuri, Dermalogica, Blissy, Merit, Nu Beauty, Monica Vinader and Fern & Petal. As well as, some of my personal creative projects that I am most proud of. 



How has the pandemic influenced your creativity and ability to create content? 

The pandemic was both a blessing and a curse when it came to creativity and the ability to create content. In one regard it revolutionized the social media landscape, allowing for more micro-influencers like me to enter the space and be discovered. It also gave me more time to create content, really having fun with it rather than trying to fit it into my schedule. With this in mind, it also brought its challenges. But I like a challenge. Due to the fact that we were all stuck at home, I had to discover a way to find creativity and inspiration within the spaces I was in. I could no longer grab it from the streets of Toronto, street style or friends and family. Additionally, I had to find ways to make everyday life interesting, while also being real with my community. Although creating content and finding creativity was hard, the pandemic forced me to have a different perspective. I realized that creativity and inspiration can be found anywhere and creating content that is relatable is actually better. Challenging myself to work with what I had made it fun and I learned more than I ever had which is a great asset. I still continue to have this mindset when I create content today, and I think that shows in my audience. 


What can we expect from you in the future? 

I have a mind for all things creative and business-driven therefore I have lots more to come. I will definitely continue my blog, creating content for brands and providing my styling service. However, I also want to enter further into the business landscape with a product(s) that may already be in the works. All I can say is, stay tuned!
