the dutch kills get grimy with their new single “ew!”
the Brooklyn-based fem punk foursome are capping off the year with a track that’s as danceable as it is angsty
The Dutch Kills are wrapping up 2024 with their disgusting new single, “Ew!”, released on December 13th. The track is an energetic anthem inspired by the consequences of being messy and feeling out of control. “Ew!” is filled with twisting instrumentals, playful vocals, and a beat you can dance and/or mosh to.
On this single, The Dutch Kills expound upon the best parts of nostalgic 2000s pop punk; front-woman Julia Von Dutch’s vocals are reminiscent of pop-punk women like Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless (as is her striking platinum hair). Von Dutch’s voice is able to convey an angsty catharsis while maintaining exceptional control and clarity. The track also takes classic, timeless pop-punk chord progressions and reinvents them with creative uses of tempo changes.
The band’s quick rise to prominence in the Brooklyn punk scene is no surprise, considering they only began playing together at the beginning of 2023 and have already established a clean harmony among the members – every part is so crisp and yet all of them are unified under top-tier production. The resulting track is the perfect balance of punk kitsch and feminine angst.
To celebrate the single, The Dutch Kills are performing a release show with Tits Dick Ass, Opera, and Digamy at Arlene’s Grocery on the Lower East Side in Manhattan this Saturday, December 14th. Tickets for the show are still available here. “Ew!” is also out everywhere now!
