Above Snakes and Dave’s TV were released on March 14 as the first pack of songs from the 12-track album. Above Snakes gets its name from old Western slang for staying resilient and keeping on track no matter what life throws in your direction.

This resilience moves through Dave’s TV, a song about being in love with someone who’s in love with someone else. The song’s inspirations travel across geographical borders and decades predating the band members themselves. The Thing’s playfulness is on display through the krautrock beat and campy video set outside Dave’s TV store in Millerton NY.

The Thing has just announced their European Headline tour and played SXSW festival as well as a hometown show in NYC. Tickets for their upcoming tour are on sale now here.

The Thing can't get no satisfaction when it comes to their desire for rock and roll. No amount of time on the road or in the studio will be enough for them. Their commitment to perfecting their sound is indebted to their DIY forefathers. After the release of their first album The Thing Is , The Thing travelled across North America and Europe, including festival stops at Summerfest, Boston Calling, Hopscotch, Treefort, and Governors Ball.

The Thing consists of Lucas Ebeling (Drums), Jack Bradley (Guitar + Vocals), Michael Carter (Guitar + Vocals) and Zane Acord (Bass + Vocals). Friends from school, Michael, Jack, and Zane bonded over shared taste in music including The Kinks and Cream, with their inspirations extending to include Brian Jonestown Massacre, King Gizzard, and The Black Keys after honing their skills. After the band’s naissance in New York City in 2022, The Thing found drummer Lucas Ebeling through his freelancing in the New York City Jazz scene.

The band’s second LP The Thing Is released in May 2023, was self-recorded with all 4 members playing at the same time in the same room. This method worked and was repeated for The Thing’s third LP. “‘The Thing’ is a fully analog record, tracked live to tape without any computer,” shares the band. "Intended to be listened to loud and fully through, the album reveals a universe of sounds and moods that brings forth our most ‘Thing’ record yet.”

The Thing’s self-titled third LP can be expected Summer of 2025.

LONG LIVE THE THING.
